A female (called a Pen) sitting on her eggs in April, Abbotsbury. The incubation takes about 6 weeks during which time the male hangs around to defend the nest. The female loses much of her plumage on her breast so the eggs keep really warm. She also regularly turns the eggs very gently with her beak.
