Ever since my childhood days the white Mute Swan has fascinated me on my visits to parks and rivers in the South of England. Over the years I have portrayed this magnificent bird in many different artworks. My native county of Dorset, UK, has a managed nature reserve of over 600 swans, on the coast at Abbotsbury. Much of my recent initial material on the swan was gathered there.
In 2009, an exhibition of oil paintings dedicated to the swan called LIGHT ON WHITE was held in the Wildlife Art Gallery in Lavenham (see publications).
In 2018 I finally realised a dream of mine to portray a swan with the wings extended in a monumental-sized sculpture in bronze, called FACING THE FUTURE.
To follow the many stages in the creation of the swan sculpture, from the initial idea, to the research, the first models in wax to the final sculpture in bronze, please download the pdf.
