This painting is the result of many visits to the Trambiserra Quarry, and depicts a marble block with the famous Mount Altissimo in the distance. The quarry has been in operation for many years. 500 years ago when Michelangelo was working there he narrowly escaped death from an accident with a large column which killed a worker. 

The study in pastels for this painting was among the finalists for the Plein Air category of the 16th International  Realism Salon, 2023 by the Art Renewal Center, New York.
